Football and WordPress Blogs
To be honest: Not too long ago, neither of these two terms did mean anything to me. Coming from Germany I grew up with soccer and although my husband and my sons are dedicated Football fans it has never occurred to me that this All American sport could ever win my heart. And when my husband told me about WordPress Blogs as a possible and less expensive alternative to a website I thought of it as something I would never be dealing with.
Well, today I can frankly admit that I got it wrong all along. Not only do I find Football to be an extremely interesting and fascinating sport, I also think that WordPress Blogs are a great idea for non-profit clubs and organizations to get a successful and inexpensive presence on the web.
You may legitimately ask me: What made you change your mind? Well, for Football the answer is easy. A good friend of mine is a Football mom and a Pinecrest Patriots Booster Club member. When she took me to my first live Football game ever, I was not only thrilled by the tactics, the complexity and the speed of the game I was also touched by watching people listening to the National Anthem and showing their national pride. Even today, this still sends shivers up my spine.
The more I learned about the Pinecrest Patriots and all the efforts that are put into this enterprise by players, coaches, parents and volunteers the more I wanted to be part of this great experience. But how? Since Tangram Media Inc. provides (among other online business solutions) websites I offered the Patriots to “create” a page within the Moore County Schools website system. With the success of the team and me getting more and more experienced and feeling more and more comfortable we “outgrew” the school page and decided to get our own domain name: www.pcpatriotsfootball.com.
And guess what? This website is based on a WordPress Blog and has done more than just fulfilling its purpose. It not only allows me to post news, events, game schedules and scores, I’m also adding pictures and links, introducing players and coaches and honoring sponsors and volunteers. Not to mention interacting with fans. On top, with “Google Analytics” I’m able to constantly check the site traffic and to get updated reports on how many people visited the site, when, how long they stayed on which page and if they are returning visitors or new to the site. Since the template didn’t cost anything and the hosting price was a bargain this WordPress Blog website is a success story in itself. Getting the site up and running required some extra efforts but with the help files and videos provided by WordPress Blog everybody can do it.
Most probably you will find me at the next Patriots’ home game and later that same night on my Mac updating “my” WordPress Blog site … hopefully adding another win.
Go Patriots go!

When doing business on the Internet, there are many ways in which you can make a website successful. Although the look is important, fancy websites don’t make sales.
